Citroen C3 - X-Pipe

Citroen C3

Fast Moving

X-Pipe for C3 hatchback

By some margin the most common Citroen on South African roads. The C3 spans the French-built cars sold here before 2016 and the India-built PureTech model that relaunched the brand locally, so suspension bushes, body panels and 1.2 three-cylinder engine parts are our fastest-moving lines.

Citroen C4 - X-Pipe

Citroen C4

Fast Moving

X-Pipe for C4 hatchback

The 2004-2010 C4 hatch and saloon sold steadily here and a good number are still running. Owners come to us mostly for EP6 petrol ancillaries, suspension components and the electrical modules that give trouble as these cars age.

Citroen C3 Aircross - X-Pipe

Citroen C3 Aircross

Fast Moving

X-Pipe for C3 Aircross crossover

Launched here in the 2019 relaunch and now old enough to need parts. The tall, boxy crossover body means bumpers, lights and roof fittings are common requests alongside the usual PureTech service items.

Citroen DS3 - X-Pipe

Citroen DS3

Fast Moving

X-Pipe for DS3 hatchback

Sold as a Citroen here before DS split into its own marque, the DS3 is a premium supermini with a strong following. The 1.6 THP turbo cars in particular keep us busy with timing chain kits, turbo parts and trim pieces that are hard to find new.

Citroen C4 Cactus - X-Pipe

Citroen C4 Cactus

Fast Moving

X-Pipe for C4 Cactus crossover

A 2016 South African Car of the Year finalist that arrived just as Citroen was leaving the market, so the local run was short. Those distinctive ribbed Airbump side panels are the single most requested body part we handle for it.

X-Pipe for C2 hatchback

A small three-door city car from the mid-2000s. Survivors are thin on the ground now, which is exactly why owners struggle to find parts through normal channels and end up phoning us.

X-Pipe for Berlingo van

The long-running Berlingo panel van and leisure activity vehicle did steady trade work in South Africa. Hard-working vehicles wear out clutches, suspension and sliding-door gear, and diesel owners come to us for HDi injection and turbo parts.

Citroen C4 Picasso

X-Pipe for C4 Picasso mpv

What Are X-Pipe?

An X-pipe is an aftermarket exhaust crossover section that links the left and right banks of a dual exhaust in an X-shape, equalising pressure and altering the exhaust note. It's not a factory Citroen part — we only see X-pipes on dual-outlet sport models or custom builds on C3 GT Line, C4 GT Line and C3 Aircross with aftermarket systems.

Signs You Need New X-Pipe

Exhaust note suddenly raspier than normal
Drone at specific motorway RPM
Rattle from the exhaust midsection
Visible rust or crack at the X junction
Exhaust leak smell at idle
Uneven sound between left and right tips

Common Questions About X-Pipe

What is the difference between an X-pipe and an H-pipe?

Both are crossovers, there to equalise pressure between a pair of exhausts, and they differ in shape and therefore in voice. An X-pipe crosses the two sides in an X and sharpens the note, giving the higher-pitched European tone. An H-pipe runs a straight connector between them and comes out deeper, closer to a muscle-car rumble. Neither is fitted at the Citroen factory.

How much does an X-pipe exhaust cost to install?

A full exhaust in SA runs R2,500 to R10,000 depending on the system and the material it is made from; an X-pipe on its own, fitted through our supplier network, comes in below that. Send the details through our form if you are putting one on a Citroen or a custom build.

Does an X-pipe change the exhaust sound?

Noticeably, yes. The X-pipe lifts the pitch and sharpens the note — it is where the scream of a sporty European car comes from. On a Citroen running dual outlets it tidies up the tone and gives it some character. On a single-exit system there is nothing for it to do.

Can an X-pipe cause exhaust drone?

Poorly designed or badly fitted X-pipes can introduce drone at specific cruise RPMs where the pipe lengths resonate. A reputable SA exhaust shop in our supplier network designs around that. Drone after an aftermarket fit usually means re-engineering is needed.

Is an X-pipe legal for road use in South Africa?

Yes, provided overall exhaust noise stays within the SABS and National Road Traffic Act limits. A catted X-pipe that keeps emissions compliant is fine. Straight-through decat versions risk a fine and failing roadworthy, so confirm with your fitter before ordering.
