- The common fitment across HDi diesels and the bigger petrols — match the bellhousing before ordering

Set against a dealer replacement, a tested used or reconditioned box is a modest bill — provided two things go right. The unit has to be the correct one for your model and gearbox code, and on an automatic it has to have been run and tested rather than simply pulled and shelved. We source both manual and automatic boxes from yards across the country and confirm fitment against your VIN before anything is dispatched.
Manual 5- and 6-speed boxes are the affordable end and the easiest to turn up locally. Automatics need more thought. The older four-speed AL4 (badged DP0 on some cars) is a simple unit that punishes neglected fluid, so if yours has started shifting harshly the reconditioned route is the safer money. Aisin built the six-speed autos — AM6 and EAT6 — for the later C4, C5 and Aircross, and while they are the tougher design they are also scarcer here and priced to match.
