- EDC17 (newer) costs more than EDC16 — quote the exact Bosch or Siemens number

Buying a Used Citroen ECU or BSI Module in South Africa
Not every expensive Citroen fault is mechanical. Where the problem is electronic, a tested ECU or BSI module can revive the car for a small fraction of what an engine or gearbox would cost. The complication is that these modules are married to the vehicle — most want VIN-matching or recoding — so who supplies it, and who codes it, count for as much as the box itself.
Warranty on a tested used engine ECU is usually short; pay more and you get a plug-and-play unit already cloned to your VIN, which sits at the top of the range. The BSI is a different animal: it runs lighting, locking and the comfort network, and when it misbehaves the symptoms present as unrelated electrical gremlins rather than one clean fault. Tell us if a used engine is going in at the same time — the ECU may then need marrying both to that donor unit and to the BSI-based immobiliser in your car.
