What Are Hood?
The bonnet is a steel or aluminium panel hinged at the scuttle, held down by a latch at the front with a secondary safety catch behind it. That secondary catch exists for one reason and it is worth respecting: if the primary latch releases at speed, the safety catch is the only thing between you and a bonnet across the windscreen. The failure we deal with most on Citroens is not the panel but the release cable — it stretches, then seizes in its outer sleeve, and eventually snaps at the latch end, leaving the bonnet shut and the engine bay unreachable. The other is straightforward damage: hail, which South Africa produces in quantity, and rust starting along the front lip.
