A C2 front fender is around R700, and used C3 and Xsara fenders run R550 to R2,500 through Pro Citroen Spares and our supplier network. The single biggest saving available is finding one already in your paint code — a colour-matched used panel skips the spray booth entirely, which is both the largest part of the bill and the part that costs you a week.

Fitted and painted at a panel shop, budget R2,600 to R6,300 for a used colour-matched fender on most C3 and Xsara models. A new panel costs more and still arrives in primer, so it still needs blending into the door. Order the arch liner and the clip set at the same time — they are cheap, they are usually damaged by whatever bent the fender, and they are the reason the next one rusts.

For the overwhelming majority of Citroens on South African roads, no. Anti-perforation cover applies to rust that starts from the inside and works out, and it runs for a limited period from first registration — which the pre-2016 cars that make up most of the local fleet passed years ago. Rust that started at a stone chip or a kerb scrape was never covered in any case. Plan on sourcing the panel independently.

It depends on whether the paint has broken. A shallow dent with the paint intact often comes out with paintless dent repair for a few hundred rand and keeps the factory finish, which is always the best outcome. Once the paint has cracked, or the metal has a sharp crease in it, you are into filler and respray — and at that point a used colour-matched panel frequently costs less than the repair.

Two to three hours if the panel is already painted, because it is a bolt-on part. Add three to five days if it needs spraying and blending into the door. What takes the time in the fitting itself is not the bolts but the alignment — getting the headlamp line, the bumper line and the bonnet gap all correct together is fiddly, and a fender fitted quickly always shows.
