Citroen C3 - Right Rear Door

Citroen C3

Fast Moving

Right Rear Door for C3 hatchback

By some margin the most common Citroen on South African roads. The C3 spans the French-built cars sold here before 2016 and the India-built PureTech model that relaunched the brand locally, so suspension bushes, body panels and 1.2 three-cylinder engine parts are our fastest-moving lines.

Citroen DS3

Fast Moving

Right Rear Door for DS3 hatchback

Sold as a Citroen here before DS split into its own marque, the DS3 is a premium supermini with a strong following. The 1.6 THP turbo cars in particular keep us busy with timing chain kits, turbo parts and trim pieces that are hard to find new.

Right Rear Door for C4 Cactus crossover

A 2016 South African Car of the Year finalist that arrived just as Citroen was leaving the market, so the local run was short. Those distinctive ribbed Airbump side panels are the single most requested body part we handle for it.

What Are Right Rear Door?

The rear door carries one mechanism the front doors do not: the child lock, which disconnects the interior handle from the latch so the door cannot be opened from inside. On older Citroens it is a simple rotary switch on the door edge, operated with the ignition key. On the Xsara and C5 it is electric, driven by an actuator inside the latch and switched from the driver's console. That electric version is the one worth knowing about, because when the actuator fails it usually fails engaged β€” and a rear door locked from the inside with passengers in it is a safety issue rather than an inconvenience.

Signs You Need New Right Rear Door

The rear door not opening from the inside handle
The child lock refusing to engage, or refusing to release
An electric child lock stuck on, with the console button doing nothing
The window dropping in its track or jamming part-way
Dents, paint damage or rust along the bottom edge
The door dropping on its hinges and catching the striker

Common Questions About Right Rear Door

Why won't my Citroen rear door open from the inside?

Check the child lock first β€” it is the answer surprisingly often and costs nothing to rule out. If the lock is off and the door still will not open from inside, the linkage rod between the interior handle and the latch has come adrift or broken, which is a common fault. The card comes off, the rod is refitted or replaced, and occasionally the latch itself has failed and gets swapped.

How do I disengage the child lock on a Citroen rear door?

On the manual systems, open the door and turn the small rotary switch on the door shut face using the ignition key β€” it takes a quarter turn. On the electric systems fitted to the Xsara and C5, use the button on the driver's door console. If the button does nothing and the door stays locked, the actuator inside the latch or its relay has failed and the latch has to come out.

How much is a used Citroen rear door in South Africa?

It varies with the model, the colour, and whether the window regulator and latch come with it β€” worth asking explicitly, because a bare shell and a complete door are quoted very differently. Ask through our form with your year and paint code and we will match a painted door through our supplier network. A colour match saves both the respray cost and about a week.

What causes the rear door latch to fail on a Citroen?

Years of slamming, heat cycling and moisture working into the mechanism fatigue the plastic catches inside the latch. On the Xsara and C5 the electric child-lock actuator is the specific weak link, and it tends to fail in the engaged position. That is why we treat a rear latch fault as more urgent than a front one β€” a door that cannot be opened from inside with children in the back is not something to leave.

Can I replace a Citroen rear door myself?

It is within reach of a competent DIY owner, but it needs two people and something to support the door's weight while the hinge bolts come out β€” a trolley jack with a block of wood works. The part that catches people is not the removal but the setting up afterwards: hinge alignment, even panel gaps and the striker position all have to be adjusted together, and getting that right is what separates a door that shuts properly from one that never quite does.
