Almost nothing, which is the point — generic clamps run R27 to R42, and the Citroen-specific two-piece French-style clamps are stocked through our network for a little more. The cost of an exhaust joint repair is essentially all labour, so it is never worth economising on the clamp. Tell us the model and roughly where in the system the joint sits and we will match it correctly.

The common sizes are 45 mm for the older C2 and C3 rear sections and 55 to 60 mm for the larger silencer joints, with the performance systems on the C4 and DS3 running 63 to 76 mm. Measure the outer diameter of the pipe at the joint rather than guessing from the model, because aftermarket sections fitted at some point in the car's life often differ from original. A photo with a tape measure across the pipe is enough for us to match it.

We would not. A clamp that has been torqued down and then heat-cycled for years has stretched threads and a saddle that has taken a permanent set to the shape of the old joint. Refitting it gives you a joint that seals adequately on the day and starts blowing a few weeks later, at which point the section has to come apart again. At R27 upward, a new clamp is the cheapest insurance in the entire job.

We source clamps nationally. Common generic sizes go out the same day; the Citroen-specific two-piece clamps sometimes need 24 to 48 hours to come in. Order the hangers at the same time if the system is coming apart anyway — the rubbers are equally cheap, they are equally likely to be perished, and having both on the bench saves a second visit.
