Citroen C3 - Steering Wheel

Citroen C3

Fast Moving

Steering Wheel for C3 hatchback

By some margin the most common Citroen on South African roads. The C3 spans the French-built cars sold here before 2016 and the India-built PureTech model that relaunched the brand locally, so suspension bushes, body panels and 1.2 three-cylinder engine parts are our fastest-moving lines.

Citroen C4 - Steering Wheel

Citroen C4

Fast Moving

Steering Wheel for C4 hatchback

The 2004-2010 C4 hatch and saloon sold steadily here and a good number are still running. Owners come to us mostly for EP6 petrol ancillaries, suspension components and the electrical modules that give trouble as these cars age.

Citroen C3 Aircross - Steering Wheel

Citroen C3 Aircross

Fast Moving

Steering Wheel for C3 Aircross crossover

Launched here in the 2019 relaunch and now old enough to need parts. The tall, boxy crossover body means bumpers, lights and roof fittings are common requests alongside the usual PureTech service items.

Citroen DS3 - Steering Wheel

Citroen DS3

Fast Moving

Steering Wheel for DS3 hatchback

Sold as a Citroen here before DS split into its own marque, the DS3 is a premium supermini with a strong following. The 1.6 THP turbo cars in particular keep us busy with timing chain kits, turbo parts and trim pieces that are hard to find new.

Citroen C4 Cactus - Steering Wheel

Citroen C4 Cactus

Fast Moving

Steering Wheel for C4 Cactus crossover

A 2016 South African Car of the Year finalist that arrived just as Citroen was leaving the market, so the local run was short. Those distinctive ribbed Airbump side panels are the single most requested body part we handle for it.

Citroen C2

Steering Wheel for C2 hatchback

A small three-door city car from the mid-2000s. Survivors are thin on the ground now, which is exactly why owners struggle to find parts through normal channels and end up phoning us.

Steering Wheel for Berlingo van

The long-running Berlingo panel van and leisure activity vehicle did steady trade work in South Africa. Hard-working vehicles wear out clutches, suspension and sliding-door gear, and diesel owners come to us for HDi injection and turbo parts.

A tiny city car sold here in small numbers. Low volume means franchised parts support dried up quickly, so used and aftermarket components are usually the only realistic route.

Steering Wheel for C4 Picasso mpv

What Are Steering Wheel?

The steering wheel is an assembly rather than a part: the rim itself, the driver's airbag module bolted into its centre, the audio and cruise switches, and behind all of it the clockspring β€” a coiled flat ribbon cable that keeps electrical continuity to the airbag and the switches while the wheel turns. That clockspring is why a steering wheel is not a casual DIY job, and it is also the reason the horn or the switches sometimes stop working after someone has had the wheel off. Worth knowing separately: most vibration owners blame on the wheel originates elsewhere entirely.

Signs You Need New Steering Wheel

Visible wear or shine on the leather where you hold it
Audio or cruise switches no longer responding
A vibration through the rim at open-road speed
A shake felt only under hard braking
An airbag warning lamp appearing after work on the wheel or column
The horn dead after the wheel has been removed and refitted

Common Questions About Steering Wheel

Why does my Citroen steering wheel vibrate at high speeds?

Start with wheel balance and tyre condition β€” that is the answer most of the time and it is the cheapest to check. If a fresh balance does not cure it, look at worn drop links, anti-roll bar bushes and, in particular, the inner CV joint on the driveshaft, which is a recognised cause of a steady wobble that appears at motorway speed and nowhere else. The wheel itself is almost never the fault.

How much does it cost to replace a Citroen steering wheel airbag?

It is specialist work rather than a straight swap: the module has to match the car, the clockspring is usually disturbed and the system needs coding and the fault clearing afterwards. Ask through our form with your model and VIN. We source used airbag modules through verified South African suppliers with compatible part numbers, which is the part that matters most.

Can I replace a Citroen steering wheel myself?

It is mechanically simple and electrically not. The airbag circuit stays live until the battery has been disconnected for at least ten minutes, the module must be carried face-up and never dropped, and the clockspring has to be centred correctly before the wheel goes back or it will tear the first time you turn onto full lock. We would use a workshop β€” accidental deployment is dangerous and a replacement module is expensive.

What causes steering wheel shake during hard braking on a Citroen?

Warped or unevenly worn front discs, in almost every case. Traffic driving heat-cycles the discs repeatedly, and the C3, Xsara and C5 Aircross fronts are where we see it most. Have the disc thickness and runout measured rather than guessed β€” sometimes a skim on the lathe cures it, and where the discs are near minimum, a fresh pair is the answer.

How much does a used Citroen steering wheel cost in South Africa?

Considerably less than a new unit with an airbag, which is why most owners go this route. The variables are trim rather than model: leather or urethane, with or without cruise and audio switches, and whether the airbag module is included. Send the model, year and trim specification through the quote form and we will match all three rather than sending a wheel that fits and does not work.
