Citroen C3 - Center Console

Citroen C3

Fast Moving

Center Console for C3 hatchback

By some margin the most common Citroen on South African roads. The C3 spans the French-built cars sold here before 2016 and the India-built PureTech model that relaunched the brand locally, so suspension bushes, body panels and 1.2 three-cylinder engine parts are our fastest-moving lines.

Citroen C4 - Center Console

Citroen C4

Fast Moving

Center Console for C4 hatchback

The 2004-2010 C4 hatch and saloon sold steadily here and a good number are still running. Owners come to us mostly for EP6 petrol ancillaries, suspension components and the electrical modules that give trouble as these cars age.

Citroen C3 Aircross - Center Console

Citroen C3 Aircross

Fast Moving

Center Console for C3 Aircross crossover

Launched here in the 2019 relaunch and now old enough to need parts. The tall, boxy crossover body means bumpers, lights and roof fittings are common requests alongside the usual PureTech service items.

Citroen DS3 - Center Console

Citroen DS3

Fast Moving

Center Console for DS3 hatchback

Sold as a Citroen here before DS split into its own marque, the DS3 is a premium supermini with a strong following. The 1.6 THP turbo cars in particular keep us busy with timing chain kits, turbo parts and trim pieces that are hard to find new.

Citroen C4 Cactus - Center Console

Citroen C4 Cactus

Fast Moving

Center Console for C4 Cactus crossover

A 2016 South African Car of the Year finalist that arrived just as Citroen was leaving the market, so the local run was short. Those distinctive ribbed Airbump side panels are the single most requested body part we handle for it.

Center Console for C2 hatchback

A small three-door city car from the mid-2000s. Survivors are thin on the ground now, which is exactly why owners struggle to find parts through normal channels and end up phoning us.

Center Console for Berlingo van

The long-running Berlingo panel van and leisure activity vehicle did steady trade work in South Africa. Hard-working vehicles wear out clutches, suspension and sliding-door gear, and diesel owners come to us for HDi injection and turbo parts.

What Are Center Console?

The centre console is the moulded assembly running between the front seats: gear lever surround, handbrake, cupholders, storage bin and the armrest lid over it. On the C2, C3, Xsara, C5 and C3 Aircross it is a multi-piece plastic structure rather than a single part, which is genuinely good news — the piece that usually breaks can normally be replaced on its own. That piece is the armrest catch. The plastic hook holding the lid closed is small relative to the spring tension behind it, and after a few thousand openings it fatigues and snaps. Owner forums across the range have been complaining about exactly this for years.

Signs You Need New Center Console

The armrest lid refusing to latch, or popping open over every bump
A broken or missing catch on the armrest hinge
Cracks in the plastic trim around the gear lever surround
Cupholders splitting, or gripping cups and refusing to release them
The USB or 12V socket in the console gone dead
Rattles and creaks from the console over rough road

Common Questions About Center Console

How much does a Citroen centre console cost?

It depends heavily on whether you need the whole assembly or just the part that broke. A used C2 or C3 console from a strip yard is inexpensive; a complete new C3 Aircross armrest assembly is a great deal more. Local retail stock for these specific mouldings is thin, so we VIN-match and source through our supplier network and approved strippers. Send the VIN and a photo of the damage — nine times out of ten the answer is cheaper than the owner expected.

Why does the armrest clip break on Citroen centre consoles?

It is a design margin problem rather than a wear problem. The plastic catch is sized close to the limit of the spring tension it has to hold, so every opening flexes it slightly, and eventually the plastic fatigues and the hook shears off. It is one of the longest-running complaints on Citroen owner forums. The fixes are straightforward: a replacement lid, or a machined or 3D-printed metal catch, which addresses the root cause rather than resetting the clock on it.

Can a Citroen armrest be repaired without replacing the whole console?

Usually yes, and this is worth knowing before anyone quotes you for a complete console. On the Xsara, C5 and C3 Aircross the armrest lid is a separate moulding on its own hinge, so it unclips and swaps out on its own. The console body underneath takes very little abuse and rarely needs anything. Where only the catch has failed, a printed or fabricated replacement catch fits into the existing lid and costs almost nothing.

Where can I buy a replacement Citroen centre console armrest in South Africa?

We source armrest lids and complete consoles through our supplier network and South African strip yards. Xsara, C5 and C3 Aircross lids are the ones we are asked for most, so they come up regularly. Send the VIN, the model year and a photo of what has broken — the photo matters more than usual here, because it tells us immediately whether you need a lid, a catch or the whole assembly.

How much does a Citroen centre console cost in South Africa?

There is no shelf price to quote honestly, because it turns on the model, on used versus new, and on whether you need the armrest lid alone or the full assembly. Local retail supply of Citroen interior mouldings is limited enough that most of these come from strippers, and stripper pricing moves with what has come in that month. That is why we quote per VIN rather than publishing a number that would be wrong most of the time.
