Citroen C3 - Rearview Mirror

Citroen C3

Fast Moving

Rearview Mirror for C3 hatchback

By some margin the most common Citroen on South African roads. The C3 spans the French-built cars sold here before 2016 and the India-built PureTech model that relaunched the brand locally, so suspension bushes, body panels and 1.2 three-cylinder engine parts are our fastest-moving lines.

The 2004-2010 C4 hatch and saloon sold steadily here and a good number are still running. Owners come to us mostly for EP6 petrol ancillaries, suspension components and the electrical modules that give trouble as these cars age.

Citroen C3 Aircross

Fast Moving

Rearview Mirror for C3 Aircross crossover

Launched here in the 2019 relaunch and now old enough to need parts. The tall, boxy crossover body means bumpers, lights and roof fittings are common requests alongside the usual PureTech service items.

Citroen DS3 - Rearview Mirror

Citroen DS3

Fast Moving

Rearview Mirror for DS3 hatchback

Sold as a Citroen here before DS split into its own marque, the DS3 is a premium supermini with a strong following. The 1.6 THP turbo cars in particular keep us busy with timing chain kits, turbo parts and trim pieces that are hard to find new.

Fast Moving

Rearview Mirror for C4 Cactus crossover

A 2016 South African Car of the Year finalist that arrived just as Citroen was leaving the market, so the local run was short. Those distinctive ribbed Airbump side panels are the single most requested body part we handle for it.

Rearview Mirror for Berlingo van

The long-running Berlingo panel van and leisure activity vehicle did steady trade work in South Africa. Hard-working vehicles wear out clutches, suspension and sliding-door gear, and diesel owners come to us for HDi injection and turbo parts.

What Are Rearview Mirror?

The interior mirror does not attach to the windscreen. It attaches to a small metal button bonded to the inside of the glass, and the mirror stem then clips or bolts onto that button. Knowing which of the two has let go is the whole diagnosis when a mirror ends up on the dashboard. On later cars the mirror also houses electronics β€” an auto-dimming element that darkens under headlights from behind, and often the rain and light sensor wiring, which is why some mirrors cost far more than others. In our summers the adhesive holding the button is what typically fails, softened by cabin heat that regularly exceeds anything the glue was tested for.

Signs You Need New Rearview Mirror

The mirror lying on the dashboard with the button still on the glass
A mirror that pivots too freely and will not hold its angle
Auto-dimming no longer darkening at night
A rain sensor fault reported on the dash
Cracked glass, or the silvering breaking up at the edges
The button itself detached, leaving a clean circle on the windscreen

Common Questions About Rearview Mirror

How much does a Citroen rearview mirror cost?

Used interior mirrors through South African strippers run R200 to R1,200, and where you land depends entirely on the electronics β€” a plain manual-dip mirror is at the bottom, an auto-dimming unit with rain sensor wiring at the top. Pro Citroen Spares and our supplier network carry stock. Tell us which type yours is, because a plain mirror will physically fit a car that needs the sensor version and then nothing works.

How do I reattach a Citroen rearview mirror that fell off?

First establish what came off. If the metal button is still bonded to the glass, you simply need to refit the mirror to it. If the button came away too, clean both the button and the glass thoroughly, let them dry, and bond the button back with a proper mirror adhesive kit such as Loctite 319 β€” ordinary adhesives will not survive a South African summer. Leave it for 24 hours before hanging any weight on it.

How do you refit a Citroen rearview mirror after it falls off?

The mirror base slides over the windscreen button and locks with a rotation β€” align it, turn it roughly 90 degrees until it clicks home, then nip up the small grub screw that stops it rotating back. Do not overtighten that screw; it is small and it strips easily, and a stripped one means a new mirror. If the button itself has come off the glass, bond that back first and let it cure fully.

Can you replace just the Citroen rearview mirror glass?

Not usually. Interior mirror glass is bonded into the housing and, on auto-dimming units, is part of an electrochromic assembly filled with gel β€” it is not a serviceable part. A complete used mirror through Pro Citroen Spares costs less than specialist re-silvering. Exterior wing mirror glass is entirely different: that clips onto a backing plate and does replace on its own.

Where can I buy a Citroen rearview mirror in South Africa?

Pro Citroen Spares carries used interior mirrors for the C3, Xsara, C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross, including auto-dimming and rain-sensor variants, with our supplier network behind that. Send the VIN and a photograph of the back of your existing mirror β€” the connector and the number of pins tell us immediately which variant you need, and the model name alone often does not.
