Hydraulic adjusters hold valve clearance using oil pressure, so when pressure falls the adjuster collapses and the rocker begins hammering the valve instead of pressing it — which then wears the pad, the lobe and the valve tip together. Check the level weekly and change the oil every 10,000 km with the correct specification grade.
