The dashboard assembly and instrument cluster, the centre console and its screen, front and rear seats with their frames and upholstery, door cards with handles and trim, headliner, carpets, air vents and the storage compartments. Beyond that sit the steering wheel — compact on most Citroens — the glovebox, sun visors, grab handles, seat belt assemblies and the cabin lighting. Small trim clips start around R500; a complete seat assembly can pass R15,000 depending on the model.

A whole car runs to somewhere between 8,000 and 12,000 individual parts. Several hundred of those are cabin-side, counting everything from the seats and dash down to the clips and fasteners nobody thinks about until one snaps. The dashboard is properly the instrument panel. Below and between the seats sits the centre console panel. The door trims are door cards. A, B and C pillar trims cover the roof supports, kick panels sit in the footwells and the parcel shelf closes off the boot on hatchbacks. Overhead is the headliner, and sill plates protect the door openings. Replacement panels generally run R800 to R4,500 depending on which one and which model, and UV-resistant material is worth paying for in this climate.

Most hard trim is injection-moulded plastic; door cards are commonly vacuum-formed over a substrate. Soft-touch surfaces are built in layers — a rigid backing, often glass-fibre reinforced, then foam, then the fabric, vinyl or textured skin you see. Understanding that layering explains most cabin failures: the skin lifts off the foam, or the foam separates from the substrate, long before the part itself breaks. Heat and UV attack the adhesive between those layers first, which is exactly what happens to a car that lives outdoors here.

A dashboard assembly for a C3 or C5 Aircross sits at R12,500-R25,500 depending on specification. Because the local Citroen parc is small, good used original trim is very often the sensible answer for a pre-2016 car — it fits, it matches, and it costs a fraction of new.
