How do I turn on the lights in my Citroen?
On most Citroens it is a rotary collar on the dashboard to the left of the steering column, or a ring on the stalk depending on model year. First detent is sidelights, second is dipped beam, and AUTO hands it to the light sensor. Confirmation is the green lamp symbol in the cluster. If AUTO is not switching on at dusk, the sensor sits at the base of the windscreen and is often simply covered by a dash mat or blocked by an aftermarket tint strip.
Are LED headlights legal in South Africa?
Legal if they are factory-fitted, or a properly engineered aftermarket unit that meets SABS requirements and is aimed correctly. What is not legal is dropping LED bulbs into a housing designed around a halogen filament: the reflector throws the light in the wrong place, you dazzle oncoming traffic, and the car fails its roadworthy. Genuine LED headlamp units run R3,500-R7,500 each. If your car left the factory with halogen, the honest upgrade is a better halogen bulb and a properly polished, correctly aimed lens.
What does the warning light mean on my Citroen?
The bulb symbol with an exclamation mark inside it means the module has lost continuity to a lamp circuit. Walk around the car with the ignition on and check headlights, tails, brake lights, indicators and the plate lamp; on later Citroens the touchscreen will name the specific bulb. Most bulbs cost under R200 and take minutes, so there is no good reason to leave it.
