What Are Citroen Dispatch Battery?
Everything electrical on a Citroen starts and ends at the battery β cranking the 1.2 PureTech or 1.6 HDi, holding the BSI awake, running the infotainment, lights and, on the later cars, the stop-start system. What matters when replacing one is not just the size but the type: a C3, C3 Aircross or C5 Aircross with stop-start needs an EFB or AGM battery built for constant shallow cycling, and fitting a conventional flooded battery in its place works for a few months and then does not.
Signs You Need New Battery
Common Questions About Citroen Dispatch Battery
How much does it cost to replace a Citroen car battery in South Africa?
It turns on the model, the engine and the type. A 1.4 HDi C3 takes a smaller, cheaper battery. A stop-start C3 Aircross needs an AGM, which costs more, and the BSI has to be told a new battery has been fitted afterwards or the charging strategy stays set for the old one. Send us the VIN and we will price the right specification rather than the closest one on the shelf.
What are the signs of a failing Citroen battery?
Slow cranking, stop-start refusing to engage, the battery charge fault message, dash lights flickering and the BSI throwing odd faults that come and go. On the later cars an infotainment system that resets itself is often the earliest sign of all, well before anything struggles to start. Get it load-tested β most workshops here do it free, and it takes minutes.
Why does my Citroen battery keep dying?
If the battery itself tests good, something is draining it. The usual suspects on a C3 or Xsara are a BSI module that will not go to sleep, a relay staying energised, or a boot or glovebox lamp switch that never switches off. Short trips are the other half of it β a fifteen-minute drive does not replace what starting took out. A parasitic draw test settles which of the two you are dealing with.
What does 'Battery charge fault, stop the vehicle' mean on a Citroen?
It means the BSI has seen system voltage drop below what it expects under load. That is not the same as a dead battery, and replacing the battery on the strength of that message alone is a common and expensive mistake. The realistic causes are a tired battery, a slipping auxiliary belt, an alternator not keeping up, or a failing BSI or power distribution module on the C3 and Xsara. Test the charging system first.
How long does a Citroen battery last?
Four to six years here. Heat is the main limit β Highveld summers age a battery faster than mileage does, and coastal humidity corrodes the terminals from the outside. Stop-start cars work their batteries harder still, so an AGM in a C3 Aircross doing city miles is at the shorter end of that range. From year three onward it is worth having it load-tested at each service rather than waiting for a morning it does not start.
Where can I buy a Citroen battery in South Africa?
We supply nationally through our network, matched on the three things that actually matter: the physical case size and terminal layout, the amp-hour and cold-cranking rating, and whether your car needs a standard, EFB or AGM unit. For stop-start C3, C5 Aircross and C3 Aircross models we can also point you to the BSI re-registration step. Send the VIN and we will quote same day.
