The cheap route is a visor repair kit, which fits a fresh pivot bush to the existing arm and restores the friction — genuinely effective when the arm itself is sound. If the arm is worn oval or has cracked, replacing the whole visor is quicker and looks better. The elastic band trick works and is visible from the outside of the car, which is roughly the summary of why we would not recommend it.

The plastic bush inside the visor base has worn smooth, so there is no longer any grip on the pivot arm. Heat is the accelerant — a cabin baking through our summers dries and hardens the plastic until it loses its elasticity, and once that has happened the friction never comes back. A repair kit or a replacement visor both fix it permanently; nothing you can spray on it will.

Yes. The headliner clip that catches the visor tip is a separate plastic part costing under R100, and a single Torx screw behind a small trim cap holds it in. Replace it rather than gluing the broken one — the clip takes a snap load every time the visor is stowed, and a glued repair fails again quickly, usually taking a bit of the headliner with it.
