The plastic gears in the fold motor have stripped, which is a characteristic fault on the C3, C5 Aircross and C3 Aircross. Occasionally the motor is fine and the BSI has simply lost the stored end position, in which case a reset gets it moving again. The distinguishing sign is the noise: a mirror that clicks or chirps without moving has stripped gears and needs the assembly.

The fold motor gear teeth have worn and are skipping under load, so the motor turns while the mirror does not — or moves part way and stops. It rarely recovers. Do not help it along by hand: forcing a powered mirror strips whatever teeth are left.
