Three checks. Listen for a clunk over bumps and a rattle in low-speed turns. With the car raised, grab the anti-roll bar near the link and push it up and down — any perceptible play is the joint. And look at the rubber boots: a split boot with grease around it means the joint has been running dry, and its remaining life is short whether or not it rattles yet.
