A failed microswitch inside the door latch, and it is one of the most common faults on the C2, C3 and Xsara. The switch is not sold separately, so the repair is a replacement latch assembly. Chasing the wiring first is usually wasted effort unless the warning is intermittent and comes and goes with door movement, which points at the loom instead.

The plastic cable link between the exterior handle and the latch has failed — a known weak point across the C2, C3 and Xsara range. The interior panel comes off, the linkage or the latch is replaced and the lock is reset before the card goes back.
